Mission Statement

  • To develop and deliver high quality training and services that fulfill the driver education needs of the trucking industry, while at the same time assisting individuals in obtaining and enjoying a safe, rewarding career as a Professional driver.

How long is the course?

  • Classroom and in cab training to get a Class 1 license is six weeks - 244 hours. A total of two weeks is spent in the classroom - 80 hours. 4 weeks of practical instruction - 40 hours of in-lab instruction (20 hours of pre-trip inspection and air brake instruction and 20 hours of observation) - 120 hours of in-cab instruction (60 hours behind the wheel and 60 hours of observation).

    Written air brake beginners test is included in the curriculum. Course includes 2 MPI road tests. Additional tests if required are $50.00 per test.

How old do I have to be to work as a professional driver?

  • You must be 18 years or older to get a Class 1 license in Manitoba.

    To drive in the United States you must be 21 years or older.

Am I too old to start a career as a professional driver?

  • No.

    As long as you meet the medical requirements there are no upper limits for the age of a professional driver.

    In the past year Professional Transport Driver has graduated men and women in their mid fifties. After being retired from their first career these individuals decided not to stay retired.

Do women train as Class 1 drivers?

  • Yes.

    More and more women are getting into the driving profession and Professional Transport Driver has trained many.

  • Professional Transport Driver Training School offers long haul job placement assistance and will work with you to help get you "on the road".

What can I expect to earn as a driver?

  • A reasonable expectation in your first year as a long distance driver can be $45,000 - $50,000.

    This will vary somewhat from company to company and you also have a degree of control over your earnings.
